A little about me
Sarah Chance is in her eighth year of teaching and her second year at Indian Springs Middle School as the head band director. She teaches the Wind Ensemble and beginning flute, bassoon, clarinet, saxophone, and trumpet classes. Mrs. Chance also assists with beginning brass classes and the Symphonic Band.
Mrs. Chance is originally from Weatherford, where she graduated from Weatherford High School. She attended the University of Oklahoma, graduating with honors with her Bachelor's Degree in Music Education in 2014. During her time at OU, she performed on Eb, Bb, and bass clarinet in all of the school's major ensembles, including the Pride of Oklahoma, Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble, and Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Mr. Brian Britt, Dr. William Wakefield, and Dr. Jonathan Shames, respectively. She studied clarinet with Jozsef Balogh and Dr. Suzanne Tirk, and was selected as a performer at the Interharmony Music Festival in Arcidosso, Italy. She also served as the Oklahoma Music Educator's Association Collegiate State President.
Mrs. Chance began her teaching career at Venus Middle School in Venus, TX, where she taught all levels of middle school band and assisted with the high school as well. After one year at Venus MS, she continued on to teach band at McLean Middle School in Fort Worth, TX as an assistant band director for 2 years and the head band director for 3 years, where the Symphonic Band received sweepstakes for the first time in school history. During her time at McLean Middle School, she received sweepstakes with the Symphonic Band for the first time in school history, as well as consistent sweepstakes with the Wind Ensemble.
Mrs. Chance is an active presenter at music education events around the state, including at the SMU Art of Teaching Music workshop, the TCU Music Education Organization, and Fort Worth ISD Fine Arts professional development. Mrs. Chance's professional affiliations include the Texas Music Educator's Association, Texas Music Adjucator’s Association, Texas Bandmaster's Association, and Sigma Alpha Iota music fraternity. Her husband, Josh, is an alumni of the Indian Springs MS and Keller HS band programs, and they live in Fort Worth with their 3 cats and 2 dogs.
