A little about me

Bio Alvarado

Richard Alvarado is a Band Director at Keller Middle School and Bear Creek Intermediate School in Keller, Texas. Richard is a native of Mansfield, Texas, and a graduate of Lake Ridge High School. He graduated with Honors from Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas.

 

During his time at TCU, he served as Principal Tuba of the TCU School of Music, Drum Major of The Pride of TCU Marching Band, and President of three student organizations. His time in the TCU Wind Symphony and TCU Symphony Orchestra have earned him performances at the Texas Music Educators Association Convention with both ensembles, the American Bandmasters Association Convention, and the College Band Directors National Association Conference. His tuba-euphonium quartet also earned the Bronze Medal at the 2018 South-Central Regional Tuba & Euphonium Conference. His collegiate mentors include Richard Murrow, Dr. Laura Singletary, Bobby R. Francis, Brian Youngblood, Matthew Garrett, and Dr. Thomas Singletary. He completed his student teaching at Keller High School and Keller Middle School.

 

Richard has also been involved in the marching arts over the years. He spent three seasons as a member of the Bluecoats Drum & Bugle Corps from Canton, Ohio, earning the Outstanding Rookie Member award in 2017, and the Outstanding Brass Performer award in 2018. He has taught as a visual instructor for the Aledo High School Marching Band and the Lake Ridge High School Marching Band, contributing to finals performances at the 2019 5A UIL State Marching Contest, as well as the 2019 BOA Waco Regional. He currently serves as a brass instructor for the Bluecoats Drum & Bugle Corps. Richard is also an active tubist in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. A member of the North Central Texas Winds, he has also subbed for groups including the Richardson Symphony Brass.

 

His professional affiliations include the Texas Music Educators Association, International Tuba-Euphonium Association, Texas Bandmasters Association, Young Band Directors of Texas, andKappa Kappa Psi. Outside of teaching, Richard enjoys serving in the music ministry at his church, traveling, and spending time with family. His wife Rachel is an elementary music teacher in Bedford, Texas.
